Solitex is a breathable membrane designed to replace underlay felt in house construction. In our opinion Underlay felt is no longer a desirable product to use considering the technological advancements made in roofing materials. It degrades in a reasonably short time under slates becoming very brittle from the heat of the sun.
It tears easily and during roof construction normally suffers damage from workers inadvertently stepping on it. It is now gradually being replaced by discerning builders with newer and more up to date membranes. These are generally far superior to felt and cannot be classed as very expensive. However, in these also there is a considerable variation in quality. We at Energybuild decided to opt for Solitex because of its advanced qualities.
Solitex acts like a gortex material on your house, allowing the house to breathe whilst at the same time preventing water penetration. It is lightweight and easy to work with. It is extremely strong and does not tear. It does not degenerate under heat and sun and is guaranteed to last a lifetime. Solitex is much more expensive than underlay felt and many other roofing membranes. When we say much more expensive you can allow for an increase in roofing cost on a large roof of about 400 Euro above the cost of underlay felt.
This, we feel, is very little extra to pay when you consider the resultant benefits and should be considered as money well invested and money very well spent. Solitex is a material that is designed for modern living, being environmentally friendly and offering huge benefits. It won the best product award at the EXPO 2002 construction trade Fair in Dublin and it has also won us over at Energybuild. |
